An immobiliser disables a variety of functions – electronic diesel control, starter motor, fuel system, handbrake and so on - so the van won’t move. Most new vans have an immobiliser as standard even if they don't have an alarm but if yours doesn’t then you should consider fitting one. Sophisticated models which set themselves automatically and can be integrated with a panic alarm cost about £350.
